Simple Hair How-To: The Twisted Updo (Video Tutorial Included)

Getting tired of braiding and would love a quick updo that looks equally as gorgeous? You’re in luck! My name is Jenny Strebe from The Confessions of a Hairstylist and I am here to show you how to create a simple twisted updo. This look is super easy to recreate and is a great alternative to a braided updo. Let’s get to styling!

twisted updo

1. Prep for styling by adding some texture to your hair. You can refer to my beach waves tutorial to get texture like mine.

2. Take a small section of hair from your front hairline and split it into two sections.

3. Twist the two sections over the top of each other and work down the side of the head, grabbing up more sections of hair and incorporating them into the twist as you go.

4. Repeat this technique, working your way around the head, until you have successfully twisted half of your hair. Twist all the way down to your ends and secure with an elastic.

5. Drape the twist to the back and opposite side of your head and secure with bobby pins.

6. Repeat the same twisting and securing technique on the opposite side of your head.

7. Detail the look by gently tugging and softening your twists and finish with a medium hold hairspray.
