  • 1. Beautifully Bunned

A high bun can be a stunning way to wear your hair. Better yet, it’s incredibly simple and is a great option for “second day hair”.

    High Bun Hairstyles

    How To Style:

    1. Secure dry, smoothed hair into a tight ponytail in the back of your head.
    2. Separate the ponytail into four sections. At random, pin the four sections so that they cover the ponytail holder and mesh well with each other.
    3. Spray everything with a strong hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is perfect for those with hair that doesn’t have much layering. If you have wavy or curly hair that’s hard to manage, this is a great way to quickly style it. It will look absolutely lovely on a face that is narrow and slender!

    Recommended Products:

A strong product to get your hair smoothed back nicely will be really helpful. Try Super Goo by Kevin Murphy. Use it sparingly! A little bit goes a long way.

    Tip:

To smooth your hair simply and easily, try using a boar bristle brush.

  • 2. Big, Beautiful and Lots of Body

Big, sexy hair never goes out of style! Especially if you have extra long locks to work with.

    Long Big Sexy Hairstyle

    How To Style:

    1. Dry hair using either a round brush or flat paddle brush.
    2. Spray hair all over with a working spray.
    3. Using a 1-inch curling iron, curl each section of your hair.
    4. After all of your hair is curled, use a back combing brush to gain volume at your roots. Pick up sections of hair all over your head and gently back comb the hair at your roots to your mid section.
    5. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is awesome if you have a ton of thick hair and want to accentuate it. However, if you have fine to medium hair, this look could still work for you! You will just have to do a little extra back combing. This style is perfect if you are looking to soften harsh features.

    Recommended Products:

As with many of these hairdos for long hair, a good back combing brush is crucial to create this style. Try the “Little Wonder Brush” by Spornette.

  • 3. The Heavenly Half-Up Half-Down

This old favorite never gets old! It’s a great way to get some hair out of your face without pulling it all back.

Long Half Up Half Down Hairstyle

    How To Style:

    1. Curl dry hair using a large, 1¼ or 1½-inch curling iron.
    2. If volume on top of the head is desired, using a back combing brush to gently add volume at the roots.
    3. Style bangs as desired, then secure the section of hair that goes from above your ears to the crown of your head back using bobby pins.
    4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great for someone who wants to elongate a round face shape. Any texture hair will work great for this look. If you have finer hair, be sure to secure back a minimal amount of hair in the half-up section; you don’t want your ends to look too thin or stringy!

    Recommended Products:

I love Classic Hairspray by Bumble and Bumble for a finishing spray. It’s light enough that it won’t get sticky yet has enough hold to keep the soft waves intact!

  • 4. Over the Top Big, Sexy (Braided) Hair

Adding a braid to otherwise ordinary big, sexy hair gives this style a whole new look!

    Big Sexy Braided Hairstyle

    How To Style:

    1. Using bobby pins, tightly secure back the two side sections of hair on either side of your head.
    2. Use a 1-inch curling iron and curl the section of hair on top of your head that is not in a bobby pin.
    3. Back comb the hair on the top of your head that you just curled that remains out of the bobby pins. If needed, secure pieces to your head using bobby pins. Remember to strategically place your hair so it covers all pins or clips.
    4. When the top “Mohawk” section has been back combed and the desired height has been reached, braid the hair that is left out. Secure it with a ponytail holder at the bottom.
    5. Spray with a strong hold hairspray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is absolutely ideal for hair that is long, thick and not very layered. It will bring a lot of focus to your features and will elongate a small, compact face.

    Recommended Products:

Volume like this requires some serious back combing skills! A great product at the root will help you out. Try Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair Dry Shampoo.

    Tip:

Try to be gentle on your hair when combing out a style like this. Start at the bottom and work your way to the root to remove all the back combing. Getting something like this out can cause breakage, so be cautious!

  • 5. Rock That Roundbrush!

A great, classic look for long, dreamy locks is a simple roundbrush!

    Long Straight Classic Hairstyle

    How To Style:

    1. Use a medium-sized round brush to dry your hair, section by section.
    2. Once hair is completely dry, use a light hold finishing spray.
    3. If extra smoothness is desired, grab your flat iron and run over your hair once or twice with it.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is ideal for girls with long hair that’s fine who want to add more body and volume to their look. If you have a round face shape, this look will soften and elongate it.

    Recommended Products:

A good round brush can make or break this look. I love using a boar bristle brush because I think it makes the hair smoother. Try Sam Villa’s medium-sized round brush. It’s my personal favorite!

  • 6. The Side Parted Sweetheart

Those long locks give you plenty of parting options. Try a part off to the side with some body and bounce for a classic look that will never go out of style.

    4. Spray everything with a light holding spray.

Best Hair Type and Face Shape:

This look will really work for anyone; fine, medium or thick hair. Keep in mind that the less naturally straight and smooth your hair is, the longer this will style will take to create. It’s great if you’re looking to soften a harsh jaw line.

    Recommended Products:

Try adding a little smoothing serum to wet hair before you begin drying it! I like Super Skinny Serum by Paul Mitchell.

  • 7. The Long and Lovely Lass

This dreamy look melts my heart and is absolutely irresistible!

    Long Blonde Hairstyle with Curls

    How To Style:

    1. Use a medium-sized curling iron or wand to curl each section of your hair.
    2. When hair is curled, take a small section around your hairline that goes back about two inches. This section should be roughly span the distance between your eyebrows, or a little bit less. Separate this section into two pieces and begin a fishtail braid. Or, separate it into three sections and begin a regular French braid.
    3. Once you have completed the braid, use a bobby pin to secure it in the crown section of your head.
    4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style totally rocks if you have long hair that’s fine, medium or thick. If you want to slim down your round shaped face, give this one a try!

    Recommended Products:

If you have hair on the finer side, try spraying some dry shampoo or a light working spray in the section that will be braided. It helps to create a little grip when braiding and doesn’t allow your hair to be so slippery and soft.

  • 8. Pulled Back Perfection

This simple updo is one of my favorite hairdos for long hair. It’s a look that will get your long hair out of your face without compromising how fabulous you look!

Long Brown Updo with Side Part

    How To Style:

    1. Back comb dry hair at the roots. Secure it loosely back in a side ponytail, leaving out your bangs and a few pieces of hair around the hairline if desired.
    2. Curl the hair in the ponytail using a 1¼-inch curling iron.
    3. Begin taking sections of the ponytail and securing them to your head using a bobby pin. Be mindful of covering up the ponytail holder.
    4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is perfect if you have a ton of hair and want to get it out of your face. Thick hair will make the side bun look fuller, while fine hair will make it look smaller. This style will work well for those who have a narrow face shape.

    Recommended Products:

Spraying everything with Moroccan Oil Medium Hold Hairspray after you have finished styling will do wonders to keep everything in place.

    Tips:

Don’t strive for perfection here. When you are pinning sections back to create a bun, just go with the flow!

    3. Create a loose French braid starting on one side of your head in the middle back area, and ending on the opposite side at the nape of your neck. Leave out bangs if you so desire.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style will look lovely on anyone who wants to make a round face appear slimmer. Long, thick hair is ideal for this style. If you need a little extra hair, use a clip-in extension or two!

    Recommended Products:

Spray some dry shampoo at your roots before you back comb. It will make a great base for the braid and give you TONS of body! I like Fresh Hair by Kevin Murphy.

  • 12. The Dreamy Deep Side Part

Set that part a little farther over to one side if you want a subtle change. Some soft curls will make this look even dreamier.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

I love this style for someone who has fine to thick long hair. It’s great if you’re looking to disguise sharp or asymmetrical features.

Before you curl, spray each section with Spray De Mode by Bumble and Bumble. It’s a light working spray that will help the curls stay in place all night!

    Tips:

If you want your curls to be a bit looser, take bigger sections or use a larger curling iron.

  • 15. The Extra Fringed Fox

A heavy fringe is a great way to add some interest to your long locks!

Long Dark Hairstyle with Heavy Fringe

    How To Style :

    1. Use a round brush to dry and smooth your hair and fringe.
    2. If you want even smoother hair, use your flat iron to safely straighten your hair even more.
    3. Apply a shine oil or serum from mid lengths to ends for added luster and smoothness.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

A fringe can be a great addition if you have an elongated forehead and want to disguise it a bit. Straight hair is ideal for this style, however if you have wavy or curly hair, you can use a blow dryer and flat iron to achieve the look.

    Recommended Products:

Add a pump or two of Moroccan Oil Treatment Oil to your hair before you blow dry and again when it’s dry. Be sure to keep this product away from your roots. It will add plenty of shine, but if it’s too close to your scalp it will look greasy!

  • 16. The Modern and Classy Chignon

I call this one a chignon, even though it doesn’t look like your typical chignon! It’s a fun twist on a classic style.

    Modern Classy Chignon Updo

    How To Style:

    1. Back comb dry hair at the roots to achieve body.
    2. Secure hair back into a loose ponytail on the back of the head near the nape of the neck.

    Recommended Products:

A great back combing brush is crucial to create looks like this. Try the Spornette Little Wonder Brush. It’s gentle but it gets the job done!

  • 17. The Down Below Braid

From the front AND the back, this look is an absolute winner!

Down Below Braid Hairstyle Back View Down Below Braid Hairstyle

    How To Style:

    1. Begin by separating a two to three-inch wide section of hair at the nape of your neck that goes from below one ear to the other.
    2. On one side, separate this section into three pieces. French braid this hair and secure it with a small ponytail holder.
    3. Curl the remainder of your hair using a 1¼-inch curling iron.
    4. Using bobby pins, pin some of the curls above the braid so that the braid shows. Pin the remainder of the hair into place on one side of your head.
    5. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

I love this look for anyone who wants to elongate their rounder face. Longer hair that isn’t too layered is ideal for this style.

    Recommended Products:

Adding in some shine spray or serum to curls after you have completed your style is the cherry on top of this look. Try Shine by Bumble and Bumble. Spray a little in your hands and then apply it from the midshaft of your hair to the ends.

    Tip:

Be patient! Being that this braid is on the back of your head, it adds a bit of a challenge. Give it a try or two before you get frustrated and give up. It takes some adjusting to get your hands to work in the way you want them to for this one. Or, recruit a friend to do the braid for you!

  • 18. The Wonderful Waterfall

The waterfall braid is one of the newest trends to sweep the hair world. This half up half down style is absolutely stunning and is a great option for a casual day activity, or a night out! Your long hair will make this style especially dreamy.

Long Curly Hairstyle with Waterfall Braid Long Curly Hairstyle with Waterfall Braid Back View

    How To Style:

    1. Begin your waterfall braid on one side of your head. This is done by completing a traditional French braid, but letting the bottom section of the braid fall out each time. Stop the braid at the back, middle section of your head. Secure the end with a bobby pin.
    2. Complete the same braid on the other side of your head. When the two meet in the middle back section of your head, secure them using a bobby pin.
    3. If desired, curl the hair that is not braided using a 1¼-inch curling iron.
    4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great on fine, medium or thick hair. However, be mindful to keep the braid small if you have fine hair. The hair left down around the face is a great way to slim down a round face shape.

    Recommended Products:

I love Redken’s Light Hold Finishing Spray for keeping your ‘do in place!

  • 19. The Triple (Braid) Threat

If you are lucky enough to have so much long hair that you can create three braids, then this style is a MUST try!

Long Dark Hairstyle with Curls and Three Braids

    How To Style:

    1. In the front of your head, section the hair around your hairline into three sections, each about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. These will become the three braids.
    2. Braid each section so you end up with three French braids. Secure the ends of each with a bobby pin.
    3. Curl the rest of your hair using a 1¼-inch curling iron. Strategically place the bobby pins holding the braid together beneath a curl so they are hidden.
    4. Spray everything with a light hold finishing spray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great for those with thick hair. It’s also a great way to get your bangs out of your face. A round face shape would be elongated by this look. Your eyes and eyebrows will be especially highlighted by this one!

    Recommended Products:

Spray some working spray in the hair that will be braided. It will give your hair some “grit” and make it easier to work with, less slippery, and help it to stay in place better!

  • 20. The Classic Pony…With a Twist!

Here’s an awesome way to get all of that long hair up and out of your face!

Long Classic Pony with Bangs Long Classic Pony with Bangs Side View

    How To Style:

    1. Begin by separating two sections on either side of your head for the braids. The sections should be about two inches in width.
    2. Either tightly braid or twist the hair in the sections. When you reach the back middle of your head, secure the braids with a bobby pin momentarily.
    3. Back comb the top “Mohawk” section of your head, as well as your crown area.
    4. Gather your hair into a ponytail in the back, middle of your head and secure it with a ponytail holder. Remove the bobby pins from the ends of the braids and wrap the ends around the ponytail holder to hide it.
    5. Spray everything with a strong hold hairspray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style will be the easiest to create if you have thick hair with minimal layering. If you have bangs, such as the ones in the picture, this style will work well for you! A heart shaped face would be complemented by this style.

    Recommended Products:

I love using dry shampoo when back combing. It will give you excellent volume at the roots. Try Fresh Hair by Kevin Murphy. It smells great AND it won’t give your hair a white cast like some dry shampoos do!

Long, luscious locks will simply never go out of style. Keep your hair hydrated and looking good with the right products and your opportunities are endless! If your hair hasn’t yet reached its full growth potential, a few clip-in extensions can go a long way. Happy hairstyling!
