REMINISCE: This style is modern yet has a twist of eras gone by. It is definitely something different since the crown is not fuller than the front as so many styles are today. Hair for this style needs to be long and not too layered.
Suitable for:
Face shape: oval, round, square
Hair texture: fine to medium
Hair density: average
Styling:
Time: 20-30 minutes
Techniques: bobby pins, flat iron (smoothing iron), covered hair bands, bobby pins
Products: firm styling gel, gel wax or paste product, hair spray
Styling Steps:
1. Start with dry hair that has been prepped with a firm hold styling gel. (Gel applied when hair was damp.)
2. Part the hair in a horseshoe shaped parting from top of ear around to the other top of the ear. Clip this hair out of the way. (Section A)
3. Take another parting from middle back of ear around the crown to other middle back of ear. Clip out of the way. (Section B)
4. Starting with the remaining hair at the back bottom of the head, use a bit of gel wax on the fingers and smooth and bring up high at the back of the head and start twisting the hair into a bun. Coil the hair around and around. Pin with bobby pins to secure. It’s okay if some ends flair out.
5. Release the middle section of hair (Section B), use a bit of gel wax on your fingers and smooth the hair and bring it down to the back of the previous section. Take the hair that falls on one side of the bun, and bring it across and back up the other side of the bun and continue to wrap the ends around the underneath of the bun.
6. Repeat with the hair that falls on the other side of the bun. Hair from Section B will actually be crossing below the bun in the back creating a beautiful look. Be sure to secure the ends firmly with bobby pins, hiding ends under the bun. For a more modern twist, you could even leave some of the ends to flair out from under the bun.
7. Next take Section A and back comb the hair straight up from the forehead.
8. Back come the sides but direct upwards towards the top.
9. Lightly smooth and create a high roll at the front of the style incorporating the sides towards the front into the high roll. Leave out small strands at the temple area. Pin the front roll.
10. Use working spray if needed to help shape and hold the roll in place as you are pinning.
11. Finish with finishing hairspray.
