Curls combined with twists are a surefire hit! This style needs hair that is at least collar-bone length or longer. Finished with a tiara, you’ll really feel like belle of the ball! All the hair in the front is divided evenly in sections that are parted from the front hairline going back to the crown. Hair in these sections is twisted close to the scalp. (Like a “cornrow” but a twist instead.) Twists can continue all through the back or can just be pulled up towards the crown area and then all curled.
Suitable for:
Face shape: oval, square, diamond
Hair texture: fine, medium
Hair density: average to thick
Styling:
Time: 60+ minutes
Techniques: blow dry with paddle brush, 1” curling iron, bobby pins, hairpins
Products: firm styling gel, molding paste, thermal setting spray, working spray, firm hold hair spray
Styling Steps:
1. Apply gel to clean damp hair. Distribute evenly and well.
2. Blow dry with a paddle brush.
3. Once hair is dry, begin to evenly section hair from the front hairline to the back of the crown. Make the sections about 1”- 1 ¼” wide. Be sure to start with a middle section, where a middle part would go, and section down the sides from there.
4. Apply a small amount of molding paste on fingers and emulsify with fingers.
5. Starting in the middle parted section, begin twisting hair with fingers. Keep hair tight and fingers close to the scalp as you twist the hair working your way back to the crown. The molding paste will help keep short little fly away hairs from popping out and will help keep the twist smooth and give hold.
6. Once a twist is completed, take a bobby pin and open it up as wide as your actual twist is. Push the bobby pin into the twist, going towards the direction of the face. I.e. twist goes from the face back to the crown. Pin goes into the twist from the crown towards the face. Pinning in the opposite direction helps keep the pin in securely.
7. Once the entire front is twisted and pinned, you can either continue working your way around the head in the same manner, ending up with all the twist tails at the crown of the head or secure all together in a high pony tail OR you can simply smooth the back up and secure in a high ponytail. Allow a few tendrils to hang out on the neck.
8. Apply thermal setting spray to ends of the hair and comb through before curling the hair with a curling iron. Curl from ends all the way close to the scalp.
9. Once hair is all curled, backcomb a few sections right at the crown to add fullness.
10. Put tiara in appropriate place and allow curls to spill over the sides of the tiara
11. Pin curls where needed to give a pleasing balance to the shape of the style.
12. Loosely curl tendrils on neck.
13. Apply hair spray to hold. Allow to dry and apply a second coat if desired.
