Tone-On-Tone
Tone-on-tone is a technique that only alters your color minimally. If you go in for highlights and ask for a tone-on-tone, your stylist should give you highlights (or low-lights) just one shade lighter (or darker) than your natural color. It doesn’t matter what length your hair is, this process is great for having a more natural look to your color.
Why would I want to do that if I won’t even really be able to tell if I had my color done? Having a tone-on-tone done will make your color look more realistic than typical highlighting or low-lighting. If you are looking for something dramatic, then you may want to skip this process or have it be the base for something more. It adds dimension and life to your color, especially if you have a lot of layering. And if you are not one to schedule your next appointment on your way out of the salon, the maintenance is a lot easier because you can’t see the regrowth as easily. If you do decide to add more drama, ask your stylist to make the foils they section out wider. Thin slices are less noticeable while the thicker slices add more excitement. And the best part about this technique is that it doesn’t matter how light or dark your hair naturally is, there is a color that can be used to compliment it.
