Dip Dyeing
Dip dyeing is a fun technique adapted from tie-dyeing. The idea is that on a light surface, you have lighter colors toward the top that get darker and deeper as you near the edge or ends of the hair. If you are on a dark surface, the effect is opposite.
There are several different ways to achieve this look and your stylist will know what will work best on your hair type. You can do it with funky vibrant colors or with more natural colors to give a sort of “fox-tail” effect. There are so many variations of this technique that your hair should be truly unique. On dark hair, your stylist would most likely recommend bleaching your hair first so you end up with a more bold result.
Pros and cons:
The upside to this technique is that you don’t have to worry about having re-growth because the dye is not close to the roots. It’s also easy to remove if it becomes a problem because you can just have it cut off and grow it back out again. The downside is that if you hate the color, a lot of times your lightened hair will be stained. So if you opted for a red color, the hair will fade to pink. You can always try and cover it with something else, but you probably won’t ever get 100% of the tone out. And you have to cut it out to truly remove it. So make sure you really think about what you are doing before you take this plunge; once you do it, enjoy it!
