The Top 3 Oscars Hairstyles of 2016

What a show! The 88th Academy Awards definitely didn’t disappoint with all the talent, the entertainment, the fashion, make up and especially hair inspiration. Here are three of our favorite Oscars hairstyles from the red carpet that you can easily recreate at home.

1. Naomi Watts

The asymmetry of Naomi’s long bob made it beautifully stand out from the rest. It was styled into loose, classic waves with one side tucked behind the ear, really accentuating the length of the other side.

How To Style:

1. Create a side parting in the hair using a comb.

2. Apply thermal protection to hair.

3. Start curling sections of hair on the lighter side of the part, directing the curl away from the face.

4. Keep curling sections of hair in the same direction as your work towards the back of the head, eventually reaching the heavier side of the parting. The hair on the lighter side of the part should all be curled away from the face and the hair on the heavier side of the part should be curled towards the face.

5. Brush the curls with a dressing brush until they turn into one big wave.

6. Set the style with hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Perfect Iron Spray will protect hair up to 450 degrees F. Alterna’s Working Hairspray will give hair long lasting hold that is touchable and natural looking.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

All face shapes with hair that is medium in texture and density and has minimal to no layering will suit this hairstyle well.

2. Daisy Ridley

This was definitely my favorite! In a sea of similar usual hairstyles, Daisy’s hair was different, and it was different without being over the top. It didn’t overpower her beautiful face or her gorgeous gown.

How To Style:

1. Create two ponytails, one on top of the other.

2. Create a knot with the ponytail on top.

3. Loosen the knot a bit to expand it and pin it by the base of the ponytail using bobby pins.

4. If there is still hair left to create another knot, do so.

5. Repeat the process with the ponytail below, leaving a tail to hang.

6. Gently loosen pieces of hair to expand and shape your hairstyle.

7. Set with a firm hold hairspray.

8. Apply a product for shine and to tame frizz.

Recommended Products:

Alterna’s Firm Hold Spray from their Caviar line is perfect for holding upstyles. Kendi Oil Micro Mist from their Bamboo line is shine in aerosol form. It will allow you to add shine to hair without disrupting the style. It also tames frizz!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Oval face shapes with long hair that is medium in texture and density and has minimal to no layering will suit this hairstyle well.

3. Margot Robbie

Margot’s waves were perfectly imperfect. They were very organic-looking and very much on trend.

How To Style:

1. Apply a styling product to damp hair.

2. Blow dry volume into the hair using a large round brush.

3. Take a section of hair and begin to flat iron, starting an inch away from the root.

4. As you go down the section, turn the flat iron downward to create a wave in the hair.

5. As you go lower, turn the flat iron upward to create another wave in the hair.

6. Keep turning up and down until you are two inches from the ends. The movement of your wrist as your create these waves with the flat iron will be similar to the movement of your wrist as you ride a motorcycle.

7. Create these waves in random sections of hair.

8. Apply a product for texture.

9. Set the hair with hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Perfect Texture Spray gives hair texture without it looking heavy or greasy. Instead the hair is light, touchable, and has serious body.
