I got a chance to watch Fashion Rocks 2006 and it was a great show. The hairstyles were great, the styles were fresh, and the music was hot. For those that didn’t get a chance to see the show or, DVR the show, there were some great moments. The duet by Shania and Tim McGraw was beautiful and Beyonce’s performance was great as well. The show also highlighted some great catwalk hairstyles as well. The official website has some great Fashion Rocks photos as well as CBS’s Fashion Rocks site.
Hi everyone, wow it’s been a long time since my last post but it has just been crazy at the salon with so many back to school students coming in. It has been so busy I haven’t even had time to keep track of my favorite TV shows but thank goodness for DVRs. Well lets get back on track and talk about changing your hair color. Changing hair color can cause drastic different looks and is a good choice if you are looking for a change of style but want to keep the same hair length. Totally changing from light to dark or dark to light can tototally change your entire look. I recommend going in to the salon for major hair color changes to get it done right. I didn’t even notice till a client mentioned these two examples of hair color changes. The first is Britney Spears who seems to look just as hot in a darker color. The dark hair seems to make her look more mature for some reason, or maybe it’s the being a mother. The second is Avril Lavigne who went from rock hair to totally blonde. This is a major example of how much a hair color change can change your entire look. Avril who used to look more like a younger pink or Fiona Apple now looks like a Hilton heiress. Very different style. Well thats all this week, hopefully it won’t be a busy and I can catch up on some topics to discuss.

After watching TV all weekend and getting a chance to relax. I happen to come across a great TV show that plays in England which has some similar US TV counterparts. The show is called 10 Years Younger. The show takes a person and actually makes them look 10 years younger with a different haircut and some makeup. After browsing through the 10 Years Younger Site website, I found it pretty interesting and I am sure everyone else will find the before and after images amazing. I have clients that come in and get fixed up only a few have gone out looking younger but the show does a great job as some of the people there get totally revamped. Andrew Barton is the featured hairstylist here and he does a remarkable job. it is amazing how he can look and create such a great look. I hope I can be as good as him one day. It really is amazing how just taking some time to fix your hair and put on some proper makeup can take the years away. Now if only they would invent a pill or drink that I can take to take off the years.
Wow what a great time last week was. Just got back from Las Vegas and have to tell everyone . DO NOT GO DURING THE SUMMER. The temperature was like 118 degrees and it is killer on your whole body. I don’t know how women manage to keep their hair beautiful there. The heat is stong enough to kill hair and make it dull. That is why this blog goes to protecting hair from the sun. Also because I plan on hitting the beach sometime this week. Well for all of you who live in crazy hot areas like Las Vegas and I guess Arizona, then definitely keep your hair moisturized. This same idea goes for summer beach holidays and getaways. What I usually do and what I recommend is using a deep conditioning treatment and mask that will help before and after days out in the sun. I use Matrix Biolage Sunsorials Sun Repair Treatment which cost around $14 dollars but really worth the price. Another good one is Phyto Plage After Sun Repair Mask which runs about $22 dollars. These are great ways to keep hair moisturized after a day in the sun. What I also use is a protection spray which I always carry around when I go to the beach and trust me, I went through a whole bottle on my Vegas trip. I love Biolage Sunsorials protective spray because it keeps frizzing down while protecting my hair from the sun. I heard other brands like Keratase, Redken, and Phyto Plage are also good but never tried them myself. Once I use a brand I like, I usually stick to it. Another quick tip is taking a hair accessory like a sun hat or a least a bandana which make great hair accessories and provide a little protection from the sun. A little hair bun with a sun hat looks pretty nice. Well that it for this blog, hope everyone has as much fun as I plan to on their summer vacations.
Wow a long time since my last post but it has been a very time. Fourth of July weekend seems to always be great fun here on the west coast. I was down in San Diego for a great fireworks display and some fun in the sun. Also, I got a chance to catch the new Superman movie and it was actually pretty good. The only thing I really though was not superb was Kate Bosworth’s hairstyles in the movie. There were not really any great looks, probably one that I saw but really nothing really eye popping but rather more simple and low key. Hmmm maybe that is how the character is supposed to look. I mean I have seen Kate Bosworth in some gorgeous looks and usually in a movie you see a great hairstyle but not here. I caught the Spiderman movie when it came out and Kirsten Dunst at least had a nice mixture of different looks. I am looing forward to seeing Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom in the pirate movie. I would like to know what everyone else thinks about this.
Curly, wavy hair is once again very hot and for those who want the perfect curly hairstyles, here are a few tips. First, wet hair does do well with styling products and neither does very dry hair. Damp hair that has been towel dried works the best with styling curly hair. When using a curling iron, a large barrel will produce large loose waves while a smaller barrel produced more defined curls. For rollers, roll damp hair around the curlers tightly until dry and then remove and tousle hair with fingers. A key to great curly hair is also the products used. For better curls, high quality lightweight products are the best because they allow curls to have a bounce while heavier products brings curls down. A shine serum, a great finishing product, is also great for allowing the curls to gleam with perfection. Products like Paul Mitchell Round Trip Styling Serum, John Frieda Frizz-Ease Corrective Styling Mousse, and TIGI Catwalk, Curls Rock are just some of the better products that can help create some great curly hairstyles that stand out.
The MTV 2006 Movie Awards last week was a great display of versatility with hairstyles. Lucky for me I finally got DVR and was able to record the show to watch later. Before I start the discussion I just want to blurb on how much I love DVR. I just recorded the whole awards show and could fast forward the commercial and could pause and take a look at the different hairstyles, dresses, and even shoes worn by the stars. I couldn’t believe how great it was. Well back to the show. Jessica Alba started the show off with a fabulous hairstyle that seemed to be a great sign for her style for the rest of the show. As the show progressed her hairstyle changed by adding swept bangs, braided front, flowing tresses, and even a tie back with sleek front hair. Applaud must go to her stylist for coming up with such great hairstyles to match all those different dresses. For you girls out there that are tired of your hairstyle, take an example here that by adding small variations such as how the bangs or tresses are done can completely create different hairstyles that are very beautiful. Even changing the lengths of layers slightly can create different hairstyles as well. There were other great hairstyles at the show as well so check out the MTV website for exclusive photos.
Wow, it’s been a long time since my last post. Anyways, one of the girls in the salon was talking about a show on Bravo network called Salon Diaries which I have never seen. I watched my first episode this weekend and it was very interesting. Brandon Martinez, the stylist, very cute ladies, is filmed in some very crazy hair situations, some which I can relate to and some I wish had a chance at. This is a situation which a lot of stylist like myself wish we could be in because it really shows how talented we are in a bigger view. For those who like reality TV thats different from all these games show type, Salon Diaries should be must watch. I definitely am now hooked on it and also heard there is another salon related reality TV show as well and will post my review on that show after I find out what it is and actually have time to catch an episode. Make sure to watch Salon Diaries on the Bravo network. Here is a link to mroe info on the show Salon Diaries
Well summer is approaching fast and most of my clients at the salon will get either get shorter cuts or shorter hairstyles. I like to get a shorter cut as well during the spring or summer because it makes me feel better to have a fresh, shorter cut since I am out and about more often during this time. Many women are the same way because we always see an increase in shorter cuts at the salon especially right before summer. well for those girls considering short hairstyles for the first time or just for some refreshing change, here are some great celebrity hairstyles I love. Nicole Ritchie has great short hairstyles but I especially loe the ones where the tip of her bangs are slightly curled out. Sienna Miller presented a very nice short cut that is great for many face shapes. And if your looking for a classic short hairstyle, I would look for some old images of Meg Ryan and select one of the many short styles like the one from her movie with Nicolas Cage. Her short hairstyle there will work on most faces and can be changed for any occasion. I love all her short hairstyles. Oh, one last tip, DO NOT try to copy Natalie Portman’s short hairstyle unless you have a similar baby soft, small face. Her face seems to work well with any short hairstyle where most other women would look horrible.
Another busy week at the salon full with prom bound girls trying to look their best. We4ll quick update on Shelly, the customer a few weeks ago who had her hair done for the costume contest. She made second place which was really great. The pictures she brought were amazing. Ok, now back to the main topic for late prom goers. There are a few techniques that can help make your hair shinier before having your hair done for prom. two quick products at the top of my head are John Frieda’s Luminous Color Glaze and Neutrogena Deep Hair mask. Both of these are treatments used for a few minutes to make color brighter and hair shinier. I have used both and can say they work pretty well applied a few weeks before a big event. L’Oreal also makes a shine spray as well but I have never used it, just recommended by one of the other girls here. There are tons of these hair shine products but I prefer the treatments a few days before just so my hair feels a little better. If anyone has any products they like, please feel free to drop a review on it.
