16 Side-Swept Hairstyles for Black Women

What makes side-swept hairstyles so popular and one of the most sought after hairstyles amongst Black women in the United States?

Well, just about any face shape can wear them, they are a great add-on to any hairstyle, and they can be worn on any occasion.

Also, if you’re a woman that isn’t too fond of the size of your forehead, then a side-swept hairstyle is a great way to decrease the appearance of your forehead by 50%. Below are 16 great side-swept hairstyles that are sure to delight any woman.

1. The Feathered Pixie

The Feathered Pixie is different from your average short, spiky and tapered pixie cut. Its wide side-swept feathery layers add volume and dimension to its shape and profile, creating its unique and stunning appearance. The Feathered Pixie is definitely in a league of its own.

How to Style:

  1. Apply a generous amount of wrapping foam to clean dried hair.
  2. Begin by setting hair with rollers. Wrap small sections of hair, located in the back and middle of the head, around small-sized rollers and larger sections of hair, located in the front of the head, around medium to large-sized rollers—hair clips can be used to properly secure sectioned hair.
  3. Allow hair to remain in rollers for 45-55 minutes, allowing for adequate drying time. If using a hooded hairdryer, 30 minutes of drying time is suggested.
  4. Remove rollers.
  5. Comb the hair located in the back and middle of the head downwards and the hair located on sides of head backward.
  6.  Apply a quarter-sized amount of wax, pomade or gel to the back and sides of the hair only, first smoothing in hands before applying to hair.
  7.  Using a wide large tooth comb, comb the top portion of the hair, located in the front of the head, forwards then sideways.
  8. Spray with finishing spray to complete look.

2. Bob with Uplifting Side-Swept Fringe

This classic bob has been upgraded with a side-swept fringe. The creator of this look has added red-colored hair extensions to the model’s (natural) black hair to give the illusion of black and red highlights. The fringe has been curled upwards rather than downwards, which is the usual direction of side-swept fringe. These small upgrades can dramatically change the appearance of your ordinary, boring side-swept bob in a huge way.
