  • 1. High Ponytail with Side-swept Fringe

You will notice a lot of your favorite urban celebrities rocking this ponytail in music videos, TV shows and on the red carpet. This look can be achieved in a number of ways. I am providing you with one.

High Ponytail with Side-swept Fringe 1

Style by Marcus Doss, Marcus Doss Salon, Fayetteville, NC

    How to Style:

    1. Brush natural hair into an upward ponytail and use black hair gel to keep hair strands in place during the hairs grouping process. Clutch ponytail in position using an Ouchless Band by Goody— avoid using elastic bands, which are known to damage hair during removal.
    2. Take the tail and wrap it around the base of the band, covering the band. Use 2-3 bobby pins to secure the tail around the base — this step, once completed, should resemble a hair bun.
    3. Apply heavy holding hairspray to securely lock the bun in place — this step is optional.
    4. Attach a Yaki Perm Straight Clip-in Ponytail to the front of the hair bun. Use the hair from the clip-in ponytail to cover any visible parts of the bun by wrapping a medium amount of hair around the base (ponytail & bun).
    5. Comb any strands straight that may be sticking up or out of place after wrapping.
    6. Apply a 6-inch clip-in fringe to side of ponytail.
    7.  Curve ends of clip-in fringe inward with flat iron.
    8. Comb hair sideways and spray with oil sheen and/or finishing spray to complete look.

    Recommended Products:

I recommend Ouchless Bands by Goody to help secure your ponytail.

    Best Face Shape:

This style is suitable for long and oval shaped faces.

    Tip(s):

Use Yaki Perm Straight Clip-in Ponytail (14-22inches) and clip in fringe to enhance your style.

  • 2. The Red & Black Side-swept Bob

I love the bold & courageous red highlights in the models hair. These highlights do a great job of accentuating the features associated with this cut and style. Follow the steps to create this easy look.

The Red & Black Easy Side-swept Bob 1

Style by Karline Ricketts, Karline\’s Salon & Spa, West Palm Beach, FL

    How to Style:

    1.  Clean, condition and dry hair.
    2.  Part hair on side (forehead to middle of head).
    3. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inch flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees.
    4. Comb hair located at the back and sides of the head downward and the hair located on the top of the head sideways, then forward — be sure to keep the part line in place. The hair that was combed forward is now going to be referred to as the fringe.
    5. Apply 6-12 rolls of colored (your choice) clip-on hair extensions by parting the hair into 6-12 different sections and applying 1 roll of clip-on hair extensions per part — hair extensions are to be applied below the part line. Hair should be parted straight across the head. Use hairclips to keep both sections of hair separated.
    6. Using a 2-3 inch flat iron, bend the ends of the hair inwards and then bend the ends that are a part of the fringe, upwards.
    7. Use a comb to gently sweep the fringe to one side of the forehead.
    8. Comb the hair on the opposite side of the fringe with a wide tooth comb; comb hair back, then forward.
    9. Spray with oil sheen and/or finishing spray to complete look.

    Recommended Products:

I recommend an oil sheen or finishing spray to complete the look.

    Best Face Shape:

This style suits most face shapes.

  • 3. Bob with Wide Side-swept Fringe

I’m just eating up this hairstyle! I really love everything about the structuring associated with this hairstyle; the cut, color, layers and part. Follow the instructions below to emulate this look.

    How to Style:

    1. Clean, condition and dry hair — dry hair using a blow-dryer comb attachment.
    2. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inch flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees. Add heat protector spray, cream or lotion to hair prior to flat ironing.
    3. Part hair on an angle (front to middle of head).
    4. Comb a large portion of hair to the front of the head — covering half of the forehead and eye, then comb this portion of hair to the side, creating a side-swept bang/fringe.
    5. Bump the ends of the hair by fastening the flat iron to the ends of the hair and curving the flat iron inwards, then releasing the ends of the hair from the flat iron.
    6. Use a comb to gently sweep the bangs to one side of the forehead.
    7. Spray with oil sheen and/or finishing spray to complete look.

    Recommended Products:

I recommend using your favorite hairspray and a heat protecting cream or lotion.

    Best Face Shape:

This style is suitable for all face shapes.

  • 4. Cheek-Length Bob with Sweeping Fringe

As I stated before in a previous article written about this hairstyle, I’m feeling the side fringe and this cut. Not only is this style easy to create, it’s also extremely low maintenance. Have fun recreating this look by following the steps below.

Cheek-Length Easy Cute Bob Hairstyle with Sweeping Fringe

Style by DENISE GRANBERRY, L3 Salon, Spring Lake, NC

    How to Style:

    1. Clean, condition and dry hair.
    2. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inch flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees.

    4. Apply number 33 (color) 6-8 inch clip-in hair extensions below the part line — hair extensions should be clipped into place, starting from one ear and ending at the other. Hair extensions can also be sewn-in by a professional weave specialist. 3-5 layers of hair extensions should be added for accurate balance and fullness.
    5. Combine hair extensions and natural hair together by brushing hair with a hard Boar Bristle Brush — be sure to keep the part line in place.
    6. Comb a medium-sized portion of the hair located at the top of the head, forward to the front of the head, and then sideways (covering one side of the forehead) — this will create a side-swept bang/fringe effect. This portion of hair will now be referred to as a fringe.
    7. Using a 3-inch flat iron, bump the ends of the hair extensions by fastening the flat iron to the end of hair (extensions) and turning the flat iron inwards, then unfastening and releasing hair — don’t touch the fringe area.

    Best Face Shape:

  • 5. Dual Color Spiral Curls with Swept Fringe

It seems like nowadays we can’t get enough of color. We want color and we want it now. Most importantly we want the color we want. It’s kind of upsetting when you go to the beauty parlor for a double process in the specific color of your choice, only to receive the total opposite of the color you’ve requested. Well, be disappointed no more as I have the perfect solution; clip-in (or on) hair extension’s in the color that you desire! Adding hair extensions is not only a safer way to add color, but it’s also good for adding length to short or medium length hair and volume to thin hair. Adding colored hair extensions to any hairstyle can brighten up its look and add an abundance of excitement to its appearance.

    6. Add feathered hair extensions to hair by  selecting a small section of hair and pulling this section of hair through the clear hoop (located at the top of the hair extension/s). Please be advised the clear hoop had a hair bead attached to it. Grab and pull the clear handle — located at the tip of clear-hoop, pulling the handle elevated with the bead to the top of the hair.

I really like this look because it’s extremely versatile. You can wear it to church, work, a wedding or to the club. Follow the steps below to create this look.

    Red Carpet Curls 1

Style by Felicia Maine, 10 Gems Salon, Beaufort, SC

    Red Carpet Curls 2

Style by Felicia Maine, 10 Gems Salon, Beaufort, SC

    How to Style:

    1. Wash hair using a moisturizing shampoo, then condition hair with a rinse-out conditioner. Towel dry hair. If using hot rollers to curl hair, dry hair fully with blow-dryer.
    2. Apply styling gel or mousse to damp towel-dried hair, coating hair from top to bottom (scalp to ends). If using hot rollers, don’t apply gel or mousse. Move to step 3.
    3. Divide hair into 4 sections and use hairclips to secure section in place. Select a section of hair (from the 4 sections created) to work with first. Once a section has been selected, release hairclip from hair and withdraw a medium amount of hair from section using a fishtail comb, then re-clip hairclip to hair.
    4. Using a roller, begin roller setting hair by wrapping ends around roller. Repeat this step until the curling process has been completed.
    5. Allow hair to air dry. A hooded dryer can be utilized for faster drying time. If using a hooded dryer, set the dryer to a medium to high temperature for  30-55 min. Don’t use hot rollers under a hooded dryer. The heat of the hot rollers will form the hair into curls; therefore, a hooded dryer is not necessary.
    6. Remove rollers once hair has completely — or cooled if using hot rollers. Then run fingers through curls to loosen and lengthen curls. Don’t use a comb; the comb will turn the curls into waves.
    7. Part hair on side, and then carefully arrange curls using the above picture as a blueprint.
    8. Spray with flexible holding hairspray.

    Recommended Products:

I recommend a quality hairspray and gel or mousse (not to be used with hot rollers).

    Best Face Shape:

All face shapes suit this style.

    4. Part and twist exposed sections of hair into 10 hair buns and use hair pins to securely lock each hair bun in place.
    5. Once all five sections of hair have been twisted into medium size hair buns, remove ponytail from alternate side and repeat step.
    6. After all sections of hair have been twisted into a total of 20 hair buns, allow hair to remain twisted into buns for 2-3 hours. For best results, use a hooded dryer to heat and mold hair buns into curls. If using a hooded dryer, the temperature should be set from medium to high and the timer should be set for 30-55 minutes.

    5. Using a large Velcro roller, wrap end of hair and twist roller securely in place. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until entire head of hair has been set in Velcro rollers.
    6. Allow roller to set hair to air dry completely. If a hooded dryer is accessible, this also can be utilized for faster drying results. If using a hooded dryer, it should be set at a medium to high temperature for 30-55 minutes, depending on thickness of hair.
    7. Once hair has fully dried, remove rollers and part hair on one side, then brush curls to one side of your head—be sure not to loosen up the curls during this process. A hairpin can be utilized to secure the curls in place.
    8. Flatten and smooth hair (opposite side of curls) by applying a generous amount of black styling/holding gel to hair — apply styling/holding gel first, then smooth/dissolve gel into hair using a medium strength bristle brush. You should be brushing the hair to one side of the head, starting from the sides of the hair and stopping at the curls. Don’t brush the curls.
    9. Comb front portion of hair forward (covering forehead), then to side of forehead — this creates a side swept bang. The side swept bang must be on the same side as the curls.

I love everything about this look! Follow the steps below to create this look.

    How to Style:

    1. Cleanse, condition and blow-dry hair straight, using a blow-dryer comb attachment, this sort of attachment can be found and purchased at your local beauty supply store. Apply a frizz control, straightening cream or serum to hair prior to blow-drying.
    2. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inch flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees.
    3. Part hair on side, then divide hair into four sections (from forehead to nape, ear to ear). Use hairclips to keep these 4 sections divided during roller setting process.
    4. Select a section of hair to work with. Once a section has been selected, release hairclip from section and withdraw a medium amount of hair from section using a fishtail comb, then return hairclip hair.
    5. Using a hot roller, begin roller-setting hair by wrapping end of hair around hot roller. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the curling/rodding process has been completed.
    6. Remove hot rollers from hair, once rollers have cooled.
    7. Using a wide-tooth comb, comb a portion of hair to the front of the head (covering half of the forehead), then comb this portion of hair to the side, creating a side swept bang/fringe.
    8. With wide-tooth comb, comb remaining portion of hair downward, then forward to back. These movements create volume and allow the layers in the hair to appear more vibrant.
    9. Add oil sheen for a natural healthy looking shine.

    Recommended Products:

Use an oil sheen spray and heat protectant cream.

    Best Face Shape:

Long, oval, and round shaped faces best suit this style.

    Tip(s):

Preheat your rollers or flat iron for the perfect curl.

    3. Part hair into two sections. Use hairclips to secure sections in place.
