20 Angled Bob Hairstyles For Black Women

An angled bob on any woman can magnify her sex appeal by 100 percent because the style expertly frames the face and accentuates the right features. If you struggle with achieving this look because your hair is so fine, don’t worry. As a hair extensions specialist, I’ll show you how to incorporate weaves to get the angled bob hairstyle you’re looking for.

1. Slanted Mushroom Bob

This slanted bob is very popular and super easy to create. Follow the steps below to get this fantastic look in just a matter of minutes using some good ol’ clip-on hair extensions.

How To Style:

  1. Apply a generous amount of heat protector spray, cream, or lotion  to hair.
  2. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inch flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees.
  3. Using a large plastic comb, comb sides and back of hair downwards and the front of hair forward creating a look of an umbrella.
  4. Part hair in the middle.
  5. Use flat iron to curve ends of hair located at the front (fringe area as well), back and sides of the head inwards by fastening the ends of the hair to the flat iron and bending the flat iron inwards. Spray with flexible holding hairspray to complete look.
  6. Apply clip-on hair extensions that are about 5-8 inches longer than your actual hair to both sides of your head (apply to the front area of head, 3 inches from the top of the head). Use the top of the fringes as your starting point. When applying clip-on hair extensions, be sure to part the section of hair you will be working with first, using a fishtail comb, once the part has been created, push the combs of the clip-on hair extensions below the part (line), push clips inwards to secure in place. Make sure you have an adequate amount of hair covering the clip-on hair extensions.
  7. Use a flat iron to bump (curl/curve) the ends of the newly installed hair extensions.
  8. Spray with a light hair spray to complete this look.

Recommended Products:

I recommend Mizani’s heat protector lotion.

Best Face Shape:

Long and oval shaped faces suit this style best.

Tip(s):

Vibrant colored clip-on hair extensions can be added to jazz up your look, but they are optional.

2. Side-Swept Angled Bob

How to Style:

  1. Wash hair using a moisturizing shampoo, then condition hair with a rinse-out conditioner. Towel dry hair. If using hot rollers to curl hair, dry hair fully with blow-dryer.
  2. Apply styling gel or mousse to damp towel-dried hair, coating hair from top to bottom (scalp to ends). If using hot rollers, don’t apply gel or mousse. Move to step 3.
  3. Divide hair into 4 sections and use hairclips to secure section in place. Select a section of hair (from the 4 sections created) to work with first. Once a section has been selected, release hairclip from hair and withdraw a medium amount of hair from section using a fishtail comb, then re-clip hairclip to hair.
  4. Using a roller, begin roller setting the hair by wrapping the ends of hair around the roller. Repeat this step until the curling process has been completed; the entire head should be set in rollers. Rollers located on the front, back and right side of the head should be roller set upwards starting from the bottom, then moving forward to the top middle portion of the head. The hair located on the left side of the head should be roller set downwards.
  5. Allow roller set hair to air dry. A hooded dryer can be utilized for faster drying time. If using a hooded dryer, set the dryer to a medium to high temperature for 30-55 min. Don’t use hot rollers under a hooded dryer. The heat of the hot rollers will form the hair into curls therefore, a hooded dryer is not necessary.
  6. Remove rollers once hair has completely dried – or cooled if using hot rollers. Then run fingers through curls to loosen and lengthen curls. Don’t use a comb; the comb will turn the curls into waves.
  7. A small amount of your favorite moisturizer lotion can be added to soften curls and add a healthy shine.
  8. Part hair on side, and then carefully arrange curls using the above picture as a blueprint.
  9. Using a wide-tooth comb, comb curls located on the right side of the head to the right, then comb curls located on the left side of the head downwards.
  10. Spray with hairspray to complete this look.

Use your favorite gel or mousse to help this style last.

  2. Add a generous amount of wrapping foam to hair.
  3. Part hair into 4 sections (from forehead to nape, ear to ear) and use hairclip/clamp to lock hair securely in place.
  4. Select a section of hair to work with. Once a section has been selected, release hairclip from section and select a small amount of hair from section, using a fishtail comb, then re-clip hairclip to hair.
  5. Apply large self-gripping rollers to hair by wrapping/twisting end of hair around roller. Repeat steps 4-5 until all sections of hair have been completed. Self-gripping rollers are great because they straighten out the strand of hair as you’re wrapping the hair, this created a smoother curl and an easy roller removal when it’s time to remove the rollers.
  6. Keep rollers in place for 1-2 hours before removing. For best results, use a hooded dryer to heat and mold hair into curls. Hooded dryer should be set at medium to high temperature for 30-55 minutes.
  7. Remove roller and add a light oil based moisturizer to loosen and soften curls as well as easy movement and give the curls a nice healthy nourished shine.
  8. Part hair on side.
  9. Comb curls located on the side of the head in a circular direction using a wide-tooth comb, then comb curls forward, and then backward. Be sure the side part is kept in place.
  10. Using a wide-tooth comb. Comb the hair located on the left side of the head downwards than forwards, then comb the hair located in the back of the head downwards.
  11. Apply 2-3 pre-spiral curled clip-on hair extensions to one side of the head (apply to the middle area of head, 3 inches from the top of the head) – particularly apply to the side you require the most length. You should be applying clip-on hair extensions that are 5-6 inches longer than your actual hair length. When applying clip-on hair extensions, be sure to part the section of hair you will be working with first using a fishtail comb, once the part has been created, push the combs of the clip-on hair extensions below the part (line), push clips inwards to secure in place. Make sure you have an adequate amount of hair covering the clip-on hair extensions.
  12. Spray with oil sheen and/or finishing spray to complete look.

How to Style:

  1. Clean, condition and dry hair.
  2. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inches flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees. Use heat protector before applying any heat to your natural hair.
  3. Part hair on side.
  4. Comb a medium-sized portion of the hair located at the top of head forward to the front of the head, then sideways (covering one side of the forehead) – this will create a side-swept bang/fringe effect. This portion of hair will now be referred to as a fringe.
  5. Using a flat iron, bump the ends and the more section of the hair by fastening the flat iron to end of hair and turning the flat iron inwards, then unfastening and releasing hair – don’t touch the fringe area.

  6. Using a flat iron, curl the ends of the hair located at the front of the head (known as the fringe) downward; use a wide-tooth comb to sweep the bangs to one side of the forehead.
  7. Using a wide-tooth comb (also known as volumizing comb) to comb the crown portion of the hair backwards.
  8. Spray with oil sheen and/or finishing spray to complete look.

How to Style:

  1. Cleanse, condition and blow-dry hair straight, using a blow-dryer comb attachment, this sort of attachment can be found and purchased at your local beauty supply store.
  2. Apply a generous amount of heat protector spray, cream, or lotion to hair.
  3. Flatten hair completely straight and smooth using a 2-3 inches flat iron. Flat iron should be set at 400-450 degrees.
  4. Part hair on side.
  5. Bump (curve/curl) ends of hair by fastening the flat iron to ends of the hair and curving the flat iron inward, then releasing hair from flat iron.
  6. Flatten and smooth hair (opposite side of curls) by applying a generous amount of black styling/holding gel to hair – apply styling/holding gel first, then smooth/dissolve gel into hair using a medium strength bristle brush. You should be brushing the hair to one side of the head, starting from the sides of the hair and stopping at the curls. Don’t brush the curls.
  7. Apply a clip-on fringe that has a combination color of black and brown and attach to fringe area. Use photo as your blue print. Please ask supplier how to properly install your clip in fringe, being that there are different ways to install different fringes from different fringe manufacturers.
  8. Apply clip-on hair extensions that are 5-8 inches longer than your actual hair to both sides of your head (apply to the front area of head, 3 inches from the top of the head). Use the top of the fringe as your starting point.
  9. Use a flat iron to bump (curl/curve) the ends of the newly installed hair extensions.
  10. Spray with a light hair spray to complete this look.
