Hair Slide Cutting
Slide cutting is a technique stylists can use to remove a lot of bulk in a structured haircut without disrupting the line of the cut. It adds movement and softness throughout the hair and works best on medium to coarse hair. If you have fine hair, you can have this technique used in your hair but the end result will be a little different. Your hair will still get the movement but it will also add lift.
When talking with your stylist about what you want your style to do and how you want it to feel, they may choose to use slide cutting. If they do, it should be done when your hair is dry so they can get the best idea of how the hair will lay once it’s cut. If your stylist says something about slide cutting, or if you request it, ask them how they would go about doing it. If they choose to do it while your hair is wet, there is a tendency to remove too much hair.
Slide cutting takes practice and skill and extremely sharp scissors. You don’t want to go get your hair cut using slide cutting with someone who is just learning the technique unless you are a model for the stylist. There are other ways to remove bulk, but this method adds a specific softness and movement that other methods cannot achieve.
Like other haircutting methods, you shouldn’t be too afraid to try something new. Hair grows back so you can change it up next time if you don’t end up liking the effect.
