Finding Solutions to Flyaway Hair
What is Flyaway Hair?
Flyaway hair can be a nightmare because the hair can be in place and styled correctly but there are those hair strands that just don't seem to be acting correctly. Flyaway hair is caused when hair strands picks up positive charges and begin to repel from the rest of hair. This leads to hair strands that seem to fly away on their own, hence the name.
Hair in this condition has lost some moisture as well. Conditions like dry air, central heating, and fresh clothing from a dryer are all possible causes of flyaway hair. Long hair that does not receive enough natural oil from the roots will also tend to become more electrically charged. Winters are usually the season when flyaways appear more frequently as the dryer air produces more charge that can be transferred to the hair.
Preventing Flyaway
Flyaway cannot be prevented entirely because it comes from static. From central heating to carpet, static is just present in many areas and becomes more apparent in dry weather. One of the best ways to prevent flyaways is to moisturize the hair.

| Anti-Static Shampoos
Shampoos with anti-static ingredients will help protect against flyaway as well. Using these types of shampoos is not required but during winter days that are very dry, a moisturizing shampoo with anti-static ingredients can be a difference between
many flyaways to no
flyaways. Using a
moisturizing
shampoo is
definitely a plus as
well if a anti-static
shampoo is not
preferred.

Hair styling tools are also a great way of fixing flyaways. The new ionic tools like blow dryers and straightening irons add a negative charge to the hair which make negates the positive charge and also makes hair shinier in the process. Tourmaline is a product used in many ionic blow dryers to provide this negative charge.
